New UTC Researcher Dr. Ali Mohammadi

Brings Experience in Sustainable Transportation, Transit-Oriented Development and Other Areas

A research scholar with experience in studies that center on sustainable transportation, transit-oriented development, ways to reduce car dependency, and other relevant areas joined the Urban Transportation Center research staff this summer.  The UTC welcomes Dr. Ali Mohammadi as a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Prior to joining the UTC, Dr. Mohammadi was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Transportation Laboratory (Translab) in the Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering at UIC.   While at Translab, he managed current studies that addressed: a) developing an AI-powered Activity-Based Model (ABM) for transportation analysis; b) innovating a smart on-demand transit system; c) predicting transportation-related emissions through satellite data analysis; and, d) estimating Autonomous and Electric Vehicle choice models in collaboration with Argonne National Lab.

Dr. Mohammadi earned his doctoral degree in Transportation Planning and Engineering in September 2021 from Sharif University of Technology (SUT), the top-ranked technological university in Iran.  His dissertation topic was titled, “Examining the Impacts of Self-selection on Household Vehicle Type Choice.”  He was ranked first among Ph.D. students in transportation planning.

He also earned his Master of Science degree from SUT in 2013, and he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2011 from Isfahan University of Technology (IUT).

During his academic career, Dr. Mohammadi has contributed to a wide range of scholarly publications that have addressed walkability, passenger vehicle safety, transportation demand management, and other topics.  Also, he has contributed to nearly a dozen presentations on ways to improve public transportation, housing, freight, and telework adaptation.
