Research Engineer Dr. Siddhartha Gulhare Joins UTC

Postdoctoral Researcher Previously Led Projects at the University of California Davis

Dr. Siddhartha Gulhare, a transportation researcher specializing in travel behavior, passive mobility data, machine learning, and data-driven behavioral modeling, recently was appointed Research Engineer at the Urban Transportation Center.

At the UTC, Dr. Gulhare will initially focus his work on studies addressing intercity passenger rail, transportation accessibility, passive mobility data analytics, and the use of artificial intelligence to support transportation planning and policy.

Prior to joining the UTC, Dr. Gulhare served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Davis, where he led and co-led research projects on post-pandemic travel behavior, vehicle miles traveled measurement, and the use of large-scale passive datasets for transportation planning.

Dr. Gulhare has participated in research studies addressing travel demand modeling, transportation data analysis, post-pandemic mobility patterns, mobile ticketing app data, connected-vehicle trajectory data, traffic safety, emissions estimation, and pedestrian dynamics.

He has contributed to peer-reviewed journal articles on travel demand heterogeneity during and after the pandemic, changes in online shopping behavior due to COVID-19, emissions and fuel consumption estimation using connected-vehicle data, and pedestrian flow dynamics during mass gatherings.

Dr. Gulhare’s research combines behavioral theory, statistical modeling, machine learning, and emerging transportation datasets to support more adaptive and evidence-based transportation planning. He earned his doctoral degree in Transportation Engineering from the University of Florida.
