UTC Welcomes Post Doctoral Research Associate Dr. Sudipta Roy

Dr. Sudipta Roy joined UTC research staff in 2026.

Scholar Earned Doctoral Degree in Civil Engineering from University of Central Florida

Dr. Sudipta Roy, a transportation engineer and researcher specializing in traffic operations and safety modeling, has been appointed to the position of Post Doctoral Research Associate at the Urban Transportation Center.

At the UTC, Dr. Roy will initially concentrate his work on studies that address electric vehicles and clean energy options, rail optimization, and economic impact analysis of rail yards.

Prior to joining the UTC, Dr. Roy served as a graduate assistant at the University of Central Florida, where he earned his earned his doctoral degree in Civil Engineering in late 2025. He also has experience as an assistant civil engineer with the Bangladesh Water Development Board, where he prepared development project proposals and evaluated government procurement tenders.

Dr. Roy has participated in research studies that have addressed trip demand modeling, transportation data analysis, traffic simulation, on-demand mobility modeling, and vehicle routing algorithms.

He has contributed a chapter to the book Human Mobility Clustering Analysis: A Case Study of Ride-hailing Demand Analysis and to peer-reviewed journal articles that address roadside noise created by traffic volume, use of autonomous on-demand shuttles for first mile-last mile connectivity, and spatial transferability of machine learning based models for ride-hailing demand prediction.

Dr. Roy has delivered conference papers and presentations as transportation conferences in Florida and Bangladesh, and at the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington.
