Since its formation in 2012, the Urban Transportation Center has been a participant in NuRail Center, a US DOT OST-R Tier 1 funded national university transportation research consortium.

Several UTC rail-centered research studies addressing freight, safety and transit were funded entirely and in part through NuRail.
